CLAT-PG 2023: Eligibility Criteria

If you are planning to apply for PG programs, you must go through prerequisites eligibility criteria in terms of education qualification, minimum qualifying marks, age limit and other parameters for the LLM courses.

Nationality

As per the official notification, Indian Nationals, Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs), Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs), Foreign Nationals are eligible to apply for the CLAT PG Exam 2023.

Age Limit

No upper age limit is set for the CLAT PG Exam, which means those belonging to any age group can apply for LLM courses. But the minimum age limit to apply for the exam is above 20 years.

CLAT-PG Educational Qualification

If you are belonging to the General/OBC/PWD/NRI/PIO/OCI categories then a score of 50% marks in LLB degree or an equivalent examination is necessary.

Age relaxation of 5% is given if you belong to SC/ST category.

CLAT-PG Requirements for General Criteria

If you are appearing for the final year examination of the qualifying degree in the month of April/May 2022, you are also eligible to apply for five-year integrated LLB or LLM courses.

In case of equal marks, the following tie-breaking procedure will be followed by the authorities.

  • Higher age

  • Computerized draw of lots 

CLAT 2023 Eligibility Criteria for Final Year Students

Candidates who will take the qualifying test in March/April will also be eligible to take the CLAT 2023 exam.

Final year candidates, however, are required to show proof of passing the qualifying examination at the time of admission, or they will forfeit their right to be considered for admission.

Candidates who do not submit the marksheet/ certificates of their passing with the required marks will not be eligible for admissions.

CLAT Eligibility Criteria for Non-Resident Indian (NRI)

The admissions for NRI/NRI sponsored category aspirants are carried out on the basis of their CLAT merit and the seats will be allocated by the concerned university under NRI Quota.

  • Candidates applying for NRI category must appear for CLAT 2023 for those NLUs that require CLAT Exam as a requirement for admission to the category.

  • The CLAT Office will be responsible for releasing a list of candidates who are eligible for admission in this category.

  • In other circumstances, candidates must visit the respective universities they want to attend to know if CLAT 2023 is a requirement for admissions in NRI category.

  • You should contact the concerned university directly for admission formalities, eligibility, documents required, and other related queries for seeking admission under NRI Quota.

WBNUJS, Kolkata (West Bengal) holds different conditions in order to give admissions, which are mentioned as follows:

  • A total of 17 seats are there for the aspirants who wish for admissions in the UG Programs. On the other hand, there will be no seat for the students seeking admissions for the PG Program.

  • CLAT Office shall hold the duty of issuing the list of candidates who are eligible for CLAT Admission under this category.

Documents Required for NRI Candidates at the time of CLAT Admission

If you belong to the NRI category, you need to submit the below-mentioned documents at the time of admission.

  • Copy of Valid Indian Passport of the Student

  • Copy of Visas acquired in the last 12 months

  • Certificate from the local embassy stating that the person is an NRI/OCI or PIO Card

Sponsors for NRI Students

  • The person who willingly sponsors candidates for admission is required to be a first-degree relation of the student and shall be residing abroad as a Non-Resident Indian.

  • In case the student has no parents or near relatives or is taken as a ward by some other nearest relative, such students also may be considered for admission.

  • The guardian must have legally treated the applying candidate as a ward. Such guardians shall file an affidavit mentioning the interest in the education of the candidate and also their relationship with the candidate.

  • It is mandatory for that person to also be a Non-Resident Indian and ordinarily residing abroad.

CLAT 2023 Admissions: Documents Required by NRI Sponsored Candidates

  • Copy of Valid Indian Passport of the Sponsor

  • Copy of Visas obtained in the last 12 months by the Sponsor

  • Certificate from the local embassy stating that the Sponsor is an NRI/ OCI or PIO Card

  • An affidavit by the sponsor indicating the interest shown in the education affairs of the student and willingness to fund the education of the student over the next 5 years.

The counselling Fees for participating in counseling for CLAT PG is Rs 2000. Note that it has recently been reduced to Rs. 20000 from Rs. 50000.

Q. Is CLAT PG Counselling fees refundable?

The Counselling Fees are non-refundable. However, the Consortium has reduced the Counselling Fees of Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 30,000 for General Category candidate and Rs. 20,000 for ST/SC/OBC/BC/EWS/PWD and other reservation candidates.
